“Sharon Mingo has lung cancer. But the 70-year-old South Lebanon Township woman won’t let that stop her from living. And she is trying to spread the word to other women about the fight against the disease.
“Mingo was selected to cut the ribbon for the American Lung Association’s Lung Force Walk at Metro Bank Park on City Island in Harrisburg on Sunday.
“‘It’s a great honor for me,’ she said. ‘I think it’s really going to make a difference in lung cancer in women.’
“When her cousin’s daughter needed a kidney transplant, Mingo stepped up and offered to give one of her own.
“‘She was in her 20s and had two kidney transplants. Her body rejected both of them,’ Mingo said. ‘I thought with the familial tie she would have a better chance.’
